Rabat – The African Football Confederation (CAF) has announced Morocco as the host country of the 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations.
Morocco’s Football Federation (FRMF) celebrated the news today, stressing that the futsal tournament is the qualifier for the 2024 Uzbekistan Futsal World Cup for the top three teams.
Morocco will host the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations in April, FRMF added. Morocco had previously hosted the tournament in 2020. Morocco’s southern city of Laayoune is set to host the competition.
Morocco has one of the strongest futsal teams in the world. In June 2023, the Moroccan futsal team won the Arab Futsal Cup, securing the title for the third consecutive year.
The Atlas Lions are no strangers to winning international titles.
In October, the Moroccan futsal team won the title of the international league in Croatia after beating Turkey 9-0 in the final.
The past decade has been celebratory for the Moroccan sports field. In addition to Futsal, Morocco will also host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2025.
Earlier this week, the Guardian highlighted Morocco’s sporting development under King Mohammed VI’s leadership.
The Guardian emphasized the good governance within the Moroccan Football Federation, “unlike many of their African counterparts.”
It said that the country has the best footballing infrastructure on the continent, reiterating King Mohammed VI’s vision to boost football development.
