Rabat – Everton forward Martin Sherif was hit with a $6,600 penalty by the Football Association after admitting repeated violations of English football’s betting laws.
According to an official statement released by the governing body on Thursday, the forward’s misconduct spanned a 15-month timeframe between 2022 and 2024.
Although the 20-year-old forward has yet to make his senior debut for the Premier League outfit, he accepted full accountability for 61 wagers placed on football matches over a 15-month span.
The rule breaches occurred between late November 2024 and mid-February 2026, triggering an investigation by the sport’s governing body.
“Martin Sherif of Everton FC has been fined £5,000 for breaching The FA’s betting rules,” the governing body stated.
“The player admitted breaching FA Rule E1.2 by causing, permitting, or enabling 61 bets to be placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026,” they added.
In offering mitigation to the FA commission, Sherif stressed that he did not personally place a single bet.
Although the FA still cited him for violating betting and account security rules, this factor was critical in helping him escape a match ban.
The sanction was determined by an independent panel that took significant mitigating evidence into account.
The panel noted his early admission of guilt after charges were filed in August, his full cooperation throughout the process, and what officials described as genuine remorse for his conduct.
Having represented the Netherlands at youth level, Sherif originally joined Everton’s academy in 2019. He spent the 2025-26 season picking up senior minutes across dual League One loan stints at Rotherham United and Port Vale.
