Rabat – As part of its yearly event, the National Company of Radio and Television (SNRT) celebrated today in Rabat several Moroccan athletes who achieved national and worldwide recognition in 2023 in a variety of sports tournaments.
The media company crowned Khadija Mardi, winner of the gold medal at the World Boxing Championships and the African Boxing Championships, with the award for the best athlete of 2023.
The same award also went to Soufiane El Bakkali, winner of the gold medal at the World Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The Moroccan champions were crowned following their superior performance in the referendum conducted by the sports department employees of the Radio News Directorate of the SNRT.
The ceremony also witnessed the coronation of the sports champions who won the second and third places of the award.
The second-best athletes of 2023 are Abdelali Jina, winner of the gold medal at the World Martial Arts Championships and the gold medal at the African Championships, as well as Fatima Zahra Abou Fares, winner of the gold medal at the World Martial Arts Championship.
As for the third best athletes award, the ceremony honored Matthias Sodi, winner of the bronze medal at the World Rowing Slalom Championships, and Soumiya Iraoui, winner of the gold medal at the African Judo Championship.
In honor of several Moroccan football players and coaches who had achieved notable success in 2023, the SNRT crowned them with awards of excellence during this same ceremony.
These went to Issame Charai, coach of the U-23 national football team; Said Chiba, coach of the U-17 national football team; Hicham Dguig, coach of the national futsal team; and Walid Regragui, coach of the Moroccan national football team.
The players who were honored during the ceremony included Ghizlane Chebbak, captain of the women’s national football team, and Yahia Attiyat Allah, player of the Wydad Athletic Club and the national football team.
