Rabat – In a recent feature on its “Travel” segment, CNN has highlighted Morocco as one of the top 24 must-visit destinations for the year 2024.
Standing alongside Angola, Morocco is one of the few African countries to secure a spot on this prestigious list, joining the ranks of destinations such as Indonesia, South Korea, Singapore, Chile, Canada and others.
“Long-time favorites among travelers due to their diverse landscapes and spectacular architecture, Morocco has rebounded with determination after a devastating earthquake in September of last year,” said CNN.
The renowned media outlet encourages tourists to explore lesser-known gems within the Kingdom, emphasizing places like Tetouan and Meknes, which, while less frequented, are undoubtedly as enchanting as the popular cities of Marrakech, Rabat, and Fez.
Recommended places include the UNESCO-listed cities of Tetouan and Meknes, two of the nine sites in the country recognized by UNESCO, as highlighted by CNN’s dedicated section on Morocco, accompanied by a captivating photo of the Medina of the White Dove.
The media acknowledges Morocco as a global leader in sustainable tourism, attributing this status to various initiatives promoting renewable energy production and the presence of several significant eco-friendly hotels in the country.
“Morocco is proving to be a world leader when it comes to sustainable tourism, with the launch of various initiatives to boost its renewable energy generation,” the media highlighted.

On a global scale, the American media outlet observes a remarkable 90% surge in tourist activity compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2023, resulting in a peak in visitor numbers at popular destinations.
According to CNN, now is the time to turn attention to places that are still largely undiscovered, charming during the off-season, or often overlooked compared to major cities or their counterparts.
The spotlight is also on destinations that facilitate tourist mobility and prioritize sustainable tourism promotion.
According to the media outlet, “the country is home to a number of important eco-friendly hotels, including the Berber-run Kasbah du Toubkal, located at the foot of the spectacular High Atlas Mountains.”
Notably, just a month prior, Essaouira earned its place on Travel Lemming’s list of the “50 Top Travel Destinations for 2024,” solidifying its status as a must-visit location.
Securing the 28th position among a diverse array of global destinations, Essaouira stands as a testament to Morocco’s coastal treasures, attracting attention from travel enthusiasts and experts alike.
The growing popularity of Morocco as a tourist destination is reflected in the statistics, with the country attracting 13.2 million tourists as of November 2023.
Furthermore, revenues from the tourism sector experienced a significant boost, jumping from MAD 84.12 billion in November 2022 ($8.5 billion) to MAD 97.4 billion in November 2023.
Morocco’s ability to seamlessly blend tradition with modernity, coupled with its commitment to sustainable tourism, positions it as a compelling destination for global travelers in 2024.
