Egyptian airline Air Cairo will launch direct flights between the Egyptian capital Cairo and the northern Moroccan city of Tangier, converging media reports have indicated.
The airline is set to launch its inaugural flight today,, the reports noted, adding that the Egyptian airline noted that its Cairo-Tangier flights will operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Sundays, with an Airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of up to 174 seats.
The airline launch is in line with the company’s vision to attract Moroccan tourists to Egypt as well as providing travel opportunities for Egyptians to Morocco, according to reports.
Tangier is one of the key tourism destinations in Morocco, attracting every year millions of tourists from across the world.
According to recent figures from Morocco’s National Airports Office (ONDA), the Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport welcomed more than 1.7 million passengers as of November 2023.
The volume represents a 142% recovery rate compared to the same period in 2019, during which 1.24 million of passengers arrived in the airport.
For the month of November alone, the airport recorded a recovery rate of 121%, with 123,751 passengers received against over 102, 406 travelers during the same period in 2019.
Across Morocco, airports welcomed more than 24.73 million travelers in November 2023, representing a growth of 7% compared to the same period in 2019 and 34% compared to 2022.
The development is attributed to significant increases in passengers notably in Tetouan, Essaouira, Tangier, Nador, Oujda, Fez, and Agadir airports.
The development is also due to the resumption of many flights that were suspended due to COVID-19 as well as the inauguration of several new air routes.
