Rabat – The Cameroonian national football team will take on the Guinean team on January 15 in the first match of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) being held in Cote d’Ivoire.
The game will take place at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium at 6:00 p.m. Moroccan Time. People following the championship remotely will be able to watch the game on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Main Event.
Subscribers on the Sky Go application will also be able to watch the game live online.
As the second most successful team in Africa with five titles, Cameroon is eagerly looking forward to claiming a sixth cup since their last in 2017.
In the 2021 AFCON edition, Cameroon, the host nation, took third place with a 5-3 score against Burkina Faso.
Cameroon emerged as a winner from Group C of the AFCON qualifications. Just like Senegal, the Indomitable Lions have frequently imposed their presence on the football scene.
With regard to Guinea, the team’s best achievement was in 1976 when it reached the final against Morocco and finished as runners-up.
In the last AFCON edition, Guinea managed to move to the knock-out stage but was disqualified in the round of 16 by a 0-1 defeat against Gambia.
Head coach of the Guinean national team, Kaba Diawara, recently spoke to the media ahead of his team’s first match against Cameroon.
“We have great ambition for this competition. We formed a team two years ago and I will be participating in my second-time AFCON. We know each other well, and I just hope we start the competition well,” the coach stated.
Speaking about preparations, the coach said that they “have done good preparations, especially on a physical level to be ready for the competition and we will continue to work in order to be ready to compete,” Diawara emphasized.
