Prospective visitors to the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris are expected to spend over € 8.3 billion during the 17 days of the global event.

According to information shared with Morocco World News by the website Schengen Visa Info, experts believe that 16 million visitors are expected to travel to France to attend the Olympic Games.

Ticket prices for the Olympics will range between € 24 and € 990, excluding the ceremony tickets estimated at over €2,700, the website said.

Schengen Visa Info also announced launching an online travel and visa checker to help visitors “easily plan” their trip to Paris.

The goal of this new feature on the website is to allow potential visitors to find information about France visa requirements and procedures, as well as the website dedicated to visa appointments.

The website also indicated that it will also offer an estimate that visitors will need to take with them during their stay in Paris for the Olympic Games, which will take place from July 26 to August 11 this year.

Visitors from Morocco who plan to travel to Paris a few days before the Olympic Games begin and stay a few days after the global event ends will need at least € 3,240, excluding hotel reservations or accommodation fees.

Lingering concerns for Moroccan travelers

In addition to the high financial demands of a planned trip to attend the Paris Olympics, another challenge for Moroccan travelers is the humiliation and unexplained procedural delays involved in applying for a French Schengen visa at consular services.

For years, Moroccans have complained about consular challenges, the delays and the mistreatment they face when seeking a visa to travel to France.

This trend has worsened over the past two to three years in the wake of France’s decision in September 2021 to slash by a whopping 50% the number of French visas granted to Moroccan travelers.

The French government has since issued statements suggesting its readiness to address this visa issue and start a process of diplomatic rapprochement with Morocco after years of strained relations. Yet the latest reports suggest Moroccans still face the same delays and sometimes humiliating treatment when seeking a visa to France.

Just last week, Schengen Visa Info reported that Moroccans spent €33.8 million on Schengen visa applications in 2022, but only just over half of the applicants (57.5%) received a “positive response” to their applications.
