Rabat – In a recent meeting with visiting Moroccan journalists in Azerbaijan, Hikmat Hajiyev, Head of the Foreign Affairs of the Presidential Administration, emphasized the deep-rooted ties between Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of Morocco.
Expressing Azerbaijan’s commitment to bolstering relations with Morocco across various sectors, Hajiyev stated that the two countries “are driven by a strong political will to further develop our relations with this country in all areas that offer opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.”
Hajiyev highlighted the robust bilateral relations between the two countries, characterized by solidarity, trust, and mutual respect, recalling the successful 2nd session of the Morocco-Azerbaijan Joint Cooperation Commission held in Rabat in November 2023.
Addressing potential areas for further collaboration, Hajiyev identified industries such as trade, tourism, agriculture, and emphasized the need for increased interaction and collaboration between business communities in both nations.
Pointing out Azerbaijan’s readiness to invest in Morocco’s tourism infrastructure, Hajiyev acknowledged Morocco’s growing appeal to Azerbaijani tourists. He also highlighted Morocco’s significant role in the automotive industry and renewable energy sector, offering ample opportunities for cooperation.
Cultural exchange was also a focal point of discussion, with Hajiyev expressing Azerbaijan’s keen interest in Morocco’s diverse cultural heritage. He emphasized Morocco’s pivotal role in the revival of Muslim civilization, underscoring the admiration of Azerbaijanis for Morocco’s rich history, culture, and cuisine.
Hajiyev stressed the importance of enhancing cultural cooperation between the two countries, suggesting initiatives such as declaring Shusha and Marrakech as cultural capitals of the Islamic world as potential starting points.
In the realm of religion, Hajiyev highlighted the shared commitment of Morocco and Azerbaijan to promote the values of moderate Islam and interfaith dialogue. Both countries stand united against the growing threat of Islamophobia, reflecting their joint efforts to combat prejudice and promote religious tolerance.
