The meeting served as a platform to review the coalition’s action strategy and discuss the objectives of initiatives aimed at eradicating terrorism, violence, and extremism.
The coalition is an intergovernmental counter-terrorist military alliance that comprises 42 member states and three partner countries throughout the Arab world. Member states work towards launching initiatives covering various domains to tackle the multifaceted challenges posed by terrorism.
The primary objective of the coalition is to counter the threat posed by Islamic State in addition to other counter-terrorist activities.
Defense ministers from member countries attended the meeting, with discussions revolving around the importance of joint action and comprehensive strategic planning to effectively eliminate the global threat of terrorism.
The participants expressed their determination to coordinate and unite efforts to address key components to combat this issue.
Morocco’s active membership in the Arab coalition for counter-terrorism efforts is in line with the country’s broader strategy to consolidate its reputation as an international leader in security.
In recent years, Morocco’s counter-terrorism efforts received international acclaim. In December of last year, the U.S. State Department lauded the effectiveness of Morocco’s counterterrorism approach in its 2022 Country Reports on Terrorism.
Similar to the previous report, the document highlights Morocco’s emphasis on strengthening security mechanisms to tackle persistent national, regional, and global terror threats.
“The Government of Morocco continued (in 2023)its comprehensive strategy, which includes vigilant security measures, regional and international cooperation, and counter-radicalization policies,” the report read.
