Fez – The International Association Football Federation (FIFA) published this week its report on international transfers made in 2023.
According to the 2023 “Global Transfer Report”, $9.63 billion was spent on the international transfer market, marking an increase of almost half (+48.1%), compared to the previous year.
In this respect, Moroccan clubs signed 152 new players from other countries for a total sum of $853,700.
Most new recruits, however, will be playing in Morocco’s two professional divisions.
In terms of sales, Morocco’s 10 major clubs sold in total 131 players to foreign teams, mainly in Europe, for a total sum of 8.5 million dollars.
FIFA also reports that 23 professional women’s football clubs have signed 42 players from different countries, while one Moroccan club only engaged in selling its players to foreign teams, namely the well-reputed AS Far.
Meanwhile, 30 amateur clubs recorded the arrival of 41 players by transfer.
The FIFA report only traces transfers that were made via compensation, as free transfers upon players’ contract expiration remain unrecorded.
Most notably, clubs from Egypt, Morocco and Saudi Arabia achieved the best revenue at the Arab level in terms of player contract sales, with sales amounting to $28 million, or 78% of the total received by Arab clubs thanks to the sale of their players abroad.
