Rabat – Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta has guided Jordan’s national football team to the final of the Asian Cup, marking a historic achievement for the country.
The qualification came after a gripping semifinal match where Jordan secured a 2-0 victory against Korea on Tuesday.
Neither of the teams were able to score a goal in the first half of the game, but the Jordanian squad turned the tide in the second half of the match.
Jordan’s Yazan Al-Naimat opened the scoring in the 53rd minute of the game. Musa Al-Taamari scored the team’s second goal in the 66th minute of the game.
Despite dominating possession of the ball with a whopping 70%, the Korean team was unable to get through Jordan’s strong defense.
Ammouta’s leadership and commitment to success have been evident throughout the tournament, with Jordan defying expectations in each of their games.
What began as a modest goal of reaching the semifinals for the first time has now evolved into a remarkable quest for the championship title.
Speaking after the team’s qualification for the semifinals last week, Ammouta expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishments and emphasized the importance of staying focused on the ultimate goal.
“We have worked tirelessly to reach this moment, and now that we’re here, we must seize the opportunity to make history,” he said.
Ammouta joined the Jordanian national team in June 2022. His appointment came as the team had been seeking to secure spots in international tournaments, including the 2026 World Cup and the Asian Cup.
The tournament’s final will take place on Saturday, with Jordan locking horns with the winner of tomorrow’s semifinal game between Iran and hosts Qatar.
