Rabat – Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT) announced today a monumental agreement with United Airlines under which the two parties will launch an airline route linking New York to Marrakech, starting October.
A statement from ONMT described the partnership as “historic,” emphasizing the importance of the “groundbreaking” airline route between the two destinations.
“This historic announcement marks the first direct point-to-point connection by an American airline to Morocco and the greater North Africa region. This is the result of the numerous promotional actions carried out by the ONMT teams targeting the American market, in line with their ‘Light in Action’ plan,” ONMT said in its statement.
The two parties will launch their route in October, with three flights using Boeing 767-300. The airline features 167 seats and United’s acclaimed cabins, including Polaris, Premium Plus Business, and Premium Economy.
Commenting on the partnership, ONMT CEO Adel El Fakir described the news as “a historic announcement.”
Fakir also added that the partnership reflects confidence in Morocco as a “destination and reinforces our promotional strategy in the American market.”
Marcel Fuchs, United’s Managing Director of International Sales also spoke on the importance of the partnership, emphasizing that the airline “continues to have the largest and most diverse network across the Atlantic.”
“We are excited to announce this further expansion with brand new seasonal service between Marrakech and New York/Newark,” he added.
With the new air route, ONMT connects Marrakech to two hubs in the North American market this year. The second destination in North America as part of ONMT’s promotional campaign will be Montreal, which will open up flights to Marrakech in early June with Air Transat.
“The new direct route also enhances the existing offer from the United States to Morocco, including the three routes operated by Royal Air Maroc from New York, Washington, and Miami to Casablanca,” ONMT added.
ONMT also stressed the importance of boosting cooperation with international markets, including in North America, noting that enhancing connections from the US to Morocco will strengthen Morocco’s position as a key destination in the travel market.
