Rabat – In a bid to harness the potential of the local product sector and meet the rising national and international demand, Mohamed Sadiki, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, emphasized the significance of promoting local products under the “Generation Green 2020-2030” strategy.
Launched by King Mohammed VI in February 2020, the “Generation Green 2020-2030” initiative draws inspiration from the royal directives outlined in a speech delivered by the sovereign on October 12, 2018.
Addressing participants at the launch of the 6th Moroccan Terroir Products Competition in Marrakech from March 04 to 06, Minister Sadiki emphasized the central role played by terroir products in socio-economic development.
He emphasized their contribution to job creation and augmented incomes for small-scale agricultural producers.
“The programs implemented to promote local products have yielded significant positive outcomes for beneficiary cooperatives and small-scale farmers, presenting a promising avenue for agricultural development,” stated Sadiki.
Highlighting the importance of trade fairs organized at local, national, and international levels, the minister stressed their role in promoting and marketing local products. This promotion, he believes, is crucial for supporting producers and safeguarding the rich tapestry of local culture and heritage.
Since the inception of the Green Morocco Plan, the local product sector has received special attention, with a tailored development strategy implemented to harness its potential through protection, encouragement, and enhancement of national resources.
Sadiki elaborated on regional plans and programs designed to organize producers and cooperatives effectively, ensuring the delivery of high-quality products meeting sanitary safety standards and market demands.
Organized by the Agricultural Development Agency (ADA), the 6th edition of the Moroccan Competition for local products is poised to recognize and celebrate the efforts of producers and agricultural cooperatives.
Over 1200 local products from the 12 regions of the Kingdom are competing, ranging from Argan and Amlou to couscous, honey, and olive oil.
