Rabat – Morocco’s Minister Delegate in charge of the National Defense Administration Abdeltif Loudyi received today the German Minister Delegate of Defense, Thomas Hitschler.
On a working visit to Morocco, the meeting between the two officials focused on ways to further boost bilateral military cooperation to address several challenges, including terrorism, irregular migration, cross-border crime, and illicit trafficking.
In the meeting, the German minister expressed his country’s willingness to reinvigorate bilateral cooperation through a military cooperation agreement, according to state media MAP.
The German officials stressed that the agreement will be followed by other deals in the field of defense and protection of classified information.
For his part, Loudyi stressed Morocco’s role as an important participant in the region’s stability and security.
He also emphasized Morocco’s mechanism based on the adoption of a multidimensional strategy to combat terrorism threats as well as ensure border security.
Loudyi emphasizes Morocco’s position that fighting such crimes is a shared responsibility that serves not only Morocco but the whole region.
He also recalled King Mohammed VI’s Atlantic initiative, seeking to energize cooperation among Sahel countries and countries alongside the Atlantic coast.
The initiative aims to enhance the economic and social development of Sahel countries as well as security and peace in the European and Sahelian African regions.
Hitschler’s visit comes just a week following the visit of German Federal Criminal Police Office Holger Munch, who echoed the same sentiment about his country’s interest in boating bilateral cooperation.
During the visit, Munch held meetings with senior officials, including the General Director of Morocco’s National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi.
During the meeting, both officials stressed their countries’ interest in boosting cooperation to achieve a better approach to addressing transnational crime and mitigate all risks and threats affecting the security and safety of citizens in both countries.
