Rabat – Morocco’s National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) has reiterated its commitment to enhancing human rights against hate speech and all other emerging issues in the field of human rights.
CNDH renewed its commitment in a statement, where the council welcomed the publication of its five pledges submitted to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as part of the “75 Human Rights Initiative.”
CNDH recalled the High Commissioner’s remarks, pointing out the adoption of 770 concrete pledges by 153 member states, including Morocco as well as 15 national human rights institutions, among them CNDH.
The council said that its five pledges submitted to the UN body in December focus on continuing to encourage the state to ratify all major human rights conventions and ensure their implementation at the national level.
“The council commits to addressing emerging issues in the field of human rights, such as the impact of artificial intelligence and climate change on the enjoyment of human rights, as well as strengthening capacities, developing necessary tools, and preparing thematic reports in the coming years on these issues,” CNDH statement said today.
The council also reiterated its commitment to supporting the African Network of National Preventive Mechanisms against Torture, particularly through financial and human resource mobilization in addition to the establishment of its secretariat in Morocco.

“This network will facilitate the exchange of best practices and assist in addressing the challenges facing national preventive mechanisms in Africa,” CNDH said.
In its first pledge, CNDH said that it will be committed to remaining involved in the development of new human rights instruments, aiming to contribute to the enhancement of human rights protection.
The second pledge advocates for the establishment of an action plan on business and human rights.
In one of its pledges, CNDH also confirmed its commitment to conducting prevention and protection visits to 100% of detention facilities across Morocco over the next 10 years.
CNDH said that the visits will cover all categories of detention centers with the aim of ensuring respect for detainees’ rights and preventing torture and ill-treatment.
