Rabat – The military headquarters of the General Staff of the South Zone in Morocco is set to host the final planning meeting for the 2024 African Lion military exercise from March 11 to 15 in Agadir.
According to a statement released on Monday by the FAR’s General Staff, planners from about ten countries, including the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and members of the US Armed Forces, will complete the arrangements for the numerous activities scheduled in the program of this 20th edition.
The same source added that the activities will include training in several operational areas, a planning exercise for senior commanders, multiple and joint armed maneuvers, civil-military activities, as well as decontamination exercises (nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical).
The statement also noted that the main objective is to enhance interoperability and intervention skills in a global setting.
The 2024 African Lion exercise, which is scheduled to take place from May 20 to 31 in the southern cities of Agadir, Tantan, Tata, Kenitra, Ben Guerir, and Tifnit, in an effort to consolidate military cooperation between Morocco and the US.
In addition, this annual exercise aims to foster interactions between the military forces of the participating countries in order to further regional stability, security, and peace.
Converging reports have indicated that Spain will not participate in this year’s African Lion. One of the factors behind this decision, according to the Huffington Post, is Spain’s unwillingness to exacerbate the existing diplomatic tensions with Algeria.
The exercise’s latest edition took place between May 22 and June 16, with a range of collaborative exercises including land, airborne, marine, Special Forces, and civil-military action operations.
