Rabat – Morocco holds a strategic position as a gateway for international companies seeking to access the vast African market of over 1 billion consumers, Moroccan Economy and Finance Minister Nadia Fettah Alaoui said on Friday.
Speaking during the Morocco-France economic summit held in Rabat, Alaoui emphasized that Morocco’s stable institutions and favorable macroeconomic conditions make it an attractive destination for global businesses looking to expand their operations.
The North African country is part of the world’s largest Free Trade Zone (AfCFTA) and has signed over 45 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with different countries, she explained.
“Morocco provides international companies with direct access to a market comprising approximately one billion consumers across the African continent,” the minister pointed out, adding that Morocco’s geographical location positions it to facilitate entry into markets hosting around 450 million consumers in West Africa and approximately one billion consumers continent-wide.
Fettah explained that Morocco offers more than just an accommodating legal and tax environment. The country boasts infrastructure meeting global standards and a robust financial system, providing comprehensive support for businesses seeking growth opportunities in Africa.
The minister emphasized the importance of collaboration between private sector entities in Morocco, highlighting the need for shared characteristics and a common “culture” to forge strong partnerships. Such collaborations, she noted, are crucial for pursuing projects with high added value in the African market.
The Morocco-France economic summit, held under the theme “Together Towards Renewed Momentum for Economic and Social Opportunities,” was attended by over 500 representatives from the French and Moroccan private sectors.
The event was jointly organized by the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises and the French Entrepreneurs Movement.
Key attendees included France’s Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, Chakib Alj, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, and Patrick Martin, President of the French Entrepreneurs Movement.
