Rabat – Spain’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas has emphasized the exceptional level of cooperation between Spain and Morocco at all levels.
The minister’s remarks came as Spain was announced as the guest of honor at the 16th edition of the International Agricultural Exhibition (SIAM) between April 22-28 in Meknes.
Speaking about the event, Planas highlighted the importance of the SIAM in fostering cooperation in various sectors, particularly in agro-alimentaire.
During an interview with Moroccan news agency MAP on the eve of the event kickoff, the Spanish minister emphasized the significance of Spain’s participation, highlighting the exceptional level of cooperation between Morocco and Spain across various sectors, especially agriculture.
Minister Planas pointed to the remarkable growth in trade between the two countries, with a staggering 40% increase in just five years. Spain’s position as Morocco’s top trading partner is further solidified by the impressive growth in agro-food exports, which have more than doubled in the last four years, reaching a value of 1.155 billion euros, he emphasized.
Spain’s commitment to Morocco’s agricultural development is further demonstrated by the participation of 35 Spanish companies in SIAM 2024.
Morocco and Spain have been committed to boosting bilateral cooperation at all levels, including the sectors of security, agriculture, trade and sports.
SIAM, which kicked off today, will center on this year’s theme of “Climate and Agriculture: For Sustainable and Resilient Production Systems.”
The theme reflects the needs to address recurring climate change related challenges, including water scarcity.
