Rabat- Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch held a meeting on Friday in Marrakech with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is currently on an official visit to Morocco.
The meeting served as a platform to highlight the robust friendship and cooperation between Morocco and Hungary, which have seen significant advancements in recent years, said a statement from Akhannouch’s office. These developments align closely with King Mohammed VI’s commitment to diversify partnerships with European Union member states, it added.
Akhnnouch and Orban discussed the strategic importance of enhancing and expanding economic collaboration between Budapest and Rabat. Morocco holds the position of Hungary’s leading commercial partner in Africa, with bilateral trade reaching approximately 4.1 billion dirhams (382 million euros) in 2022, representing a notable 25% increase compared to the previous year.
The pair’s meeting further addressed the preparations for the upcoming 5th Morocco-Hungary Economic Commission, slated for October 2024. This significant event coincides with the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations, according to the press statement.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Orban extended an invitation to the Moroccan Head of Government for a working visit to Hungary, it noted.
The discussions also covered various regional and international matters, notably exploring avenues to bolster partnerships across all sectors. The press release also highlighted the alignment of the two countries’ views on a wide range of international issues, underscoring their shared perspectives.
On Thursday, the Hungarian Prime Minister held discussions in Marrakech with President of the Centrist Democrat International (IDC-CDI), Andres Pastrana, the Prime Minister’s press chief, Bertalan Havasi, told the Hungarian news agency MTI.
During the meeting, the two parties examined the status of the international party alliance and right-wing conservative forces, along with the global challenges to national sovereignty.
