Rabat– As Morocco prepares to celebrate the 27th anniversary of Throne Day on July 30, several international officials, lawmakers, and experts have highlighted the North African country’s transformation under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, pointing to its growing regional influence, economic resilience, and expanding international partnerships.
In separate interviews with MAP, the officials credited Morocco’s long-term vision for strengthening its position as a regional leader and trusted international partner.
Morocco Emerges as Regional Power
British Labour MP Joe Powell said Morocco has emerged as “a leading regional power” thanks to a strategic vision pursued over the long term under King Mohammed VI.
Having closely followed Morocco’s development over the past two decades, Powell said he was impressed by the country’s progress.
“There are immense opportunities, and it is truly impressive to see the progress that has been achieved,” he said.
The British lawmaker pointed to improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, housing, and major development projects, adding that Morocco’s clear long-term direction provides confidence for investors.
“What is important, particularly for investment, is that economic actors clearly understand the direction in which a country is heading… Morocco has succeeded particularly well in this.”
Morocco Is a Pillar of Stability
Christian Cambon, chairman of the France-Morocco Friendship Group in the French Senate, described Morocco as “a hub of stability, security and prosperity” under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
Cambon praised Morocco’s progress in renewable energy, water management, education, and the automotive industry, saying France could draw inspiration from the country’s development model.
He also said Morocco-France relations are experiencing “exceptional” momentum, citing closer parliamentary cooperation and strengthened bilateral ties following France’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara. He further highlighted Morocco’s role in promoting regional stability and contributing to Europe’s security through cooperation on migration and security issues.
Morocco’s Remarkable Transformation
Conservative MP Andrew Murrison described Morocco’s development over the past 27 years as “remarkable,” attributing much of its success to the King’s leadership.
“One of the principal factors behind Morocco’s success lies in the strong and enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI,” he said.
Murrison also highlighted Morocco’s political stability and long-term planning, saying they have helped create an environment that attracts international investors and strengthens the North African country’s role as a regional leader.
Long-Term Vision
French-Moroccan strategy expert Laurent Benarousse said Morocco’s transformation has been built on a comprehensive long-term vision encompassing institutional, economic, and social reforms.
He pointed to constitutional reforms, regionalization, industrial growth, and economic diversification as key factors behind Morocco’s resilience, while saying the renewed momentum in Morocco-France relations creates fresh opportunities for industrial cooperation.
Morocco as an African Gateway
Jean-Charles Damblin, Director General of the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Morocco (CFCIM), said the Royal Atlantic Vision has reinforced Morocco’s attractiveness as a bridge between Europe and Africa.
“It is Morocco that is moving forward rapidly and with determination,” he said.
Damblin highlighted the country’s institutional stability, modern infrastructure, and clear development roadmap as major advantages for foreign investors.
Morocco Is a Model for Sustainable Development
United Nations spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric described Morocco as “a model” in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He praised Morocco’s presentation of voluntary national SDG reports to the United Nations, describing the initiative as “a mark of transparency,” and said Morocco’s experience could inspire other developing nations through South-South cooperation.
Morocco Has Become a Reference
UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations Miguel Ángel Moratinos said Morocco has become “a reference” and “a model” in economic, institutional, and social development.
“The greatest achievement of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is having instilled in Moroccans real confidence in the future of their country.”
He also praised the Royal Atlantic Initiative, calling it a strategic response to today’s changing international landscape.
A Trusted Partner for Europe
Former European Council President Charles Michel said Morocco has become “a trusted partner for Europe” and “an important voice in Africa” thanks to its long-term vision and sustained reforms.
“The Kingdom’s ability to think in the long term and transform ambitions into concrete projects is a hallmark.”
Michel added that Morocco’s progress in infrastructure, renewable energy, industrial development, and social reforms has reinforced its international standing and reputation as a reliable partner.
Morocco-Brazil Relations
Hugo Motta, President of Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies, said Morocco’s multidimensional development reflects King Mohammed VI’s vision of openness and international partnership, enabling the North African country to become “a respected and influential actor on the international stage.”
Speaking to MAP, he also highlighted Morocco’s role as a bridge between Africa and Europe and welcomed the resumption of direct flights between São Paulo and Casablanca.
Noting that the two countries are marking 120 years of diplomatic relations this year, he said Morocco and Brazil have significant potential to expand cooperation in trade, agriculture, food security, tourism, and climate resilience.
