Rabat – A dramatic video has been going viral of a frustrated and vengeful fan lashing Moroccan striker Abderrazak Hamdallah following Al-Hilal’s 4-1 victory over Al-Ittihad in tonight’s Saudi Super Cup final.
The viral video shows Hamdallah receiving two whips after approaching the fan and throwing water in his direction. Tensions immediately erupted after the fan flogged the striker, with some Al-Ittihad players hurrying to the scene in defense of their teammate.
Al-Ittihad’s star players Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante both got off to a slow start in tonight’s game, ultimately proving unable to stop Al-Hilal from defeating the Saudi Pro League team 4-1.
Even though Hamdallah scored Al-Ittihad’s only game of the evening, which was a crucial and potentially game-changing equalizer on minute 21, he seemed to take the brunt of the crowd’s frustration as one enraged fan subsequently attacked him after the heavy defeat.
Reacting to the taunts that the fan had directed at him, the Moroccan striker showered him with water from his bottle as he walked off the field.
The fan then brandished a whip and lunged at Hamdallah. Players and officials intervened to break up the altercation and take the Moroccan striker to safety.
Two stadium security guards rushed in and escorted the whip brandisher away after he was swiftly escorted out of the way by another spectator.
Al-Ittihad squad finished top of the league in an effort to win the quadruple this season, but Al-Hilal won easily tonight and took home the trophy in Abu Dhabi thanks to two goals from Malcom.
The Brazilian forward scored Al-Hilal’s first goal in the 5th minute but Hamdallah quickly equalized from a rebound in the 21st minute.
Towards the end of the first half, however, Salem Aldawsari scored the second goal to give Al-Hilal the lead again, before Malcom added a third goal. To round off the scoring and desperation and misery to Al-Ittihad fans’ frustration, Nasser Aldawsari scored Al-Hilal’s fourth goal of the tense evening in the dying minutes of the pulsating game to lift the Saudi Super Cup.
The two sworn rivals will meet again in the King’s Cup semi-final on April 30.
