Rabat – The ancient city of Fez, Morocco, is gearing up for a week-long exploration of spirituality and self-discovery with the 16th edition of the Fez Festival of Sufi Culture and World Spiritualities, as detailed in their press release.
Held under the theme “Know Yourself,” the festival promises a vibrant tapestry of music, intellectual discourse, and artistic expression from April 20th to 27th, 2024.
Organized by the Association of the Fez Festival of Sufi Culture, the event promises a profound exploration of the human spirit through a captivating lineup of events.
Since its inception in 2007, the association has been dedicated to organizing annual editions of the festival, featuring a diverse array of discussions, concerts, exhibitions, and events centered around Sufi culture.
Enthusiasts of spirituality and seekers of knowledge alike will find themselves immersed in thought-provoking discussions as roundtable sessions delve into themes such as “In the Footsteps of Abraham”, “Taking Care of the Soul, Spirituality and Psychotherapy”, and “Transhumanism: What Place for Spirituality?”.
Philosophers, scientists, and mystics will have the opportunity to engage in enlightening debates pondering the essence of the human soul.
The festival’s opening night will be illuminated by the enchanting performance of “The Religion of Love: Mysticism and Poetry”, presented by artists Fatimzahra Qortobi and Abdelkader Ghayt, accompanied by a mesmerizing recitation by Sophia Hadi.
Music aficionados can anticipate performances by acclaimed artists including Mauritanian vocalist Fatou Mint Enghdey, French cellist Aurélien Pascal, and Moroccan musician Maraoune Hajji alongside Tanzanian talent Yahua Hussein Abdallah.
Art lovers will have the opportunity to explore exhibitions showcasing the intricate beauty of calligraphy by Sami Ali and the visual poetry of “Letter and Light” presented by Benjamin Beni, Fatima-Zahra Sanhaji, and Jamal Nassiri.
Throughout the festival, attendees will be treated to captivating “ritual” evenings featuring the spiritual practices of the Wazzaniya Tariqa, Hamadcha, Qadiriya-Boutchichiya Tariqa, and Cherqawiya Tariqa.
Faouzi Skalli, President of the FezFestival of Sufi Culture, was quoted in the release, commenting on this year’s theme of “Know Yourself.” Skalli said the theme invokes the wisdom of Socrates and emphasizes the interconnectedness of science and conscience in the pursuit of self-awareness.
Skalli elucidated that through various paths of wisdom, understanding one’s true essence leads to inner happiness and freedom.
The Association of the Fez Festival of Sufi Culture aims to promote and celebrate the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of Sufism, both in Morocco and globally.
