Rabat – The Royal Moroccan Federation for Electronic Games (FRMJE) has launched the first edition of the “eBotola MDJS eSport” electronic games championship, which is the first ever in Africa, according to a press release by the federation.
Collaborating with FRMJE in this edition are the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
“Since its creation in December 2020, the Royal Moroccan Federation for Electronic Games has committed to enable professional players to represent Morocco internationally,” Marketing and Communications Manager at the FRMJE, Soufiane El Filali, told the local media outlet Le360.
With two participations in the World Cup, Morocco is currently ranked sixth in “EA FC Pro” globally, El Filali added.
This edition features clubs from the first division, the Botola Pro, divided into two groups of eight teams each, including Wydad, Raja, AS FAR, Chabab Mohammedia, Hassania d’Agadir, and many others, in an unprecedented electronic clash.
Two teams compete against one another in each match, and if the first two games end in a draw, a third play-off is scheduled.
After all the group stage matches, the top four teams in each group qualify for the playoffs, which will take place on April 20. The playoffs comprise the knockout stages and the final of this competition, which will be played in Rabat.
Each day, only four matches will be played and broadcast on FRMJE’s social networks, one of which will be broadcasted live with commentary.
These matches take place in two main locations: the headquarters of the Electronic Games governing body, and in youth centers across the kingdom.
The victorious team will win the national championship and have a chance to play in the Club World Cup qualification PlayIns for the first time in Africa (EA FC24).
