Rabat – According to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the association responsible for determining the start date, it is highly probable that Eid Al Fitr will commence on Wednesday, April 10, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This auspicious occasion, marking the end of Ramadan, holds great significance for Muslims worldwide. Similar to the commencement of Ramadan, the official start date of Eid Al Fitr will be confirmed by the UAE’s Moon-sighting committee.
Comprising astronomers, court officials, and advisors from the Emirates’ Islamic authority, this committee diligently searches for the new crescent Moon, signaling the beginning of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar.
Al Jarwan elaborated on the intricacies involved, stating, “Islamic consensus is expected on the first day of the month of Shawwal and Eid Al Fitr shall be on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.”
He further noted that the birth of the Shawwal crescent is anticipated to coincide with a total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024. This celestial alignment underscores the significance of the occasion, heightening anticipation among believers.
The significance of Eid Al Fitr, also known as the ‘Holiday of Breaking the Fast’, extends beyond its religious connotations. It symbolizes a time of joy, gratitude, and unity among families and communities.
Traditionally, the last day of Ramadan is observed as a public holiday in the UAE, extending the celebratory period for residents.
Consequently, UAE workers, across both public and private sectors, are poised to enjoy an extended six-day holiday, fostering an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie.
While the exact duration of the Eid Al Fitr holiday in the UAE remains contingent upon the sighting of the moon, the forthcoming celebration promises to be a time of reflection, celebration, and cherished moments shared with loved ones.
