Beni Mellal – Morocco has been unanimously re-elected as the vice-president of the Executive Committee of the European Centre for Global Interdependence and Solidarity, also known as the “North-South Centre,” which operates under the Council of Europe, the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP) reported yesterday.
The renewal of the country’s vice-presidency for another two-year term took place during the renewal of the North-South Centre’s statutory bodies, following elections held during the 32nd meeting of the Executive Committee in Lisbon on Tuesday.
According to a statement from Morocco’s Consulate General in Strasbourg, this re-election not only reflects the quality of the rich and multidimensional relations between Rabat and the Council of Europe, but it also reinforces the kingdom’s position as a reliable and credible partner of the North-South Center. The vote further demonstrates Morocco’s commitment to achieving the Centre’s missions and a common ownership of its actions, the consulate argued.
The re-election also recognizes Morocco’s pioneering role in promoting intercultural dialogue and establishing effective horizontality in the face of global challenges. It attests to the strategic position that the Kingdom occupies in the various dynamics of the Euro-Mediterranean area.
According to the MAP report, the renewal of Morocco’s mandate as the vice-president of this executive statutory body once again demonstrates the trust and credibility enjoyed by the policies led by Morocco under the impetus of King Mohammed VI.
It added that these policies focus on reformism, democratic renewal, strengthening good governance and the rule of law, and promoting universally recognized human rights.
Morocco was represented at the 32nd meeting of the Executive Committee of the North-South Centre by Omar Amghar, Consul General of Morocco in Strasbourg, who is in charge of relations with the Council of Europe.
