Rabat – Administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s socio-economic reforms.
Power made her remarks during a press briefing today following discussions with Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita in Rabat.
She told the press that the US supports the reforms led by King Mohammed VI in government, education, and development.
She also commended the numerous achievements made by Morocco in terms of reforms, highlighting the North African country’s role at the continental and regional levels.
Power also said she is satisfied with Morocco’s significant efforts to promote youth empowerment and efforts against extremism, as well as the country’s impressive achievements in the field of renewable energies and the fight against climate change.
She also commended the country’s efficient management of the effects of the e Al Haouz earthquake that struck the North African country on September 8, killing 3,000 people.
On Monday, Power announced the launch of a new Cooperative Resilience Program aimed at helping Moroccan communities adapt to climate change.
She said that the program seeks to support cooperatives and entrepreneurs, particularly women and young people, with cash grants and technical assistance to foster climate resilience.
Power said that the program “supports Moroccan cooperatives and entrepreneurs, especially women and young people, to grow their businesses and to build their resilience to climate shocks.”
