Rabat – Morocco attracted 4.6 million tourists in the first months of 2024, new data from the Ministry of Tourism said today.
In April, a record of 1.3 million tourists arrived in Morocco, an increase of 17% compared to the same period last year.
The ministry attributed the positive development to the significant arrivals of Moroccans residing abroad and foreign tourists.
The arrival of foreign tourists recorded an increase of up 15% while the visits of Moroccans residing abroad reached an increase of 20%, the ministry added.
Global arrivals estimated at 4.6 million tourists in this year’s first four months this year represents a 14% growth compared to the end of April 2023. This accounts for 567,000 additional arrivals, the ministry’s data detailed.
“These exceptional results pave the way for promising prospects for the 2024 summer season and for the entire year,” Minister of Tourism Fatima Zahra Ammor said today, noting that the ministry’s roadmap programs continue to bear fruit.
“We maintain course and continue to implement regional and national programs outlined in the roadmap, which should enable us to welcome 15.5 million tourists by the end of 2024.”
The latest data from the ministry shows a promising reality as the country aims to attract millions more tourists within reach.
Morocco recorded last year a tourist arrival of 14.5, and the North African country projects — and is working — to reach 17 million by 2026.
By 2030, meanwhile, Morocco seeks to record 26 million arrivals; and the number appears to be reachable as the country will co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
