Rabat – Today, dozens of Chief Information Officers (CIOs) from some of the world’s largest companies visited UM6P’s AI Dome to witness the remarkable work being done in Morocco on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The visiting delegation is part of CIOmove, an international initiative to bring together CIOs from a vast array of multinationals with an average revenue of $5 billion or more.
The role of the CIO has become ever more important in the business world as the effective use of AI is seen as one of the most promising ways for businesses to boost productivity and revenue.
After a warm welcome at UM6P’s Rabat campus, where the impressive AI Dome serves as a hub for Moroccan and African AI research and development, the visiting CIOs were welcomed by AI Movement leader Fallah Seghrouchni and Horst Ellerman, who serves as the ambassador for the CIOmove initiative.
The morning program progressed with an extensive look into the AI research and development being done at UM6P as part of its AI Movement. The visiting group was presented with the various fields within AI research that UM6P is undertaking. From computer vision to the use of AI in Morocco’s top firms, the delegation was treated to a detailed overview of research and deployment of AI in Morocco.
Following the introduction, the delegation was split into groups using an algorithm, dividing the group into smaller teams who would discuss topics from AI in healthcare to the use and improvement of Large Language Models (LLMs). The topics up for discussion during CIOmove’s journey are pre-determined by its participants through a voting system ahead of the trip.

The CIOmove initiative takes the “move” in its name very seriously, always ensuring that networking is done in a dynamic way. The participating CIOs appeared prepared for this element, as sneakers were more common than the usual black or brown leather business shoes.
As the group wandered through UM6P’s campus, visiting some of its facilities, the CIOs shared ideas and discussed their new Moroccan experience at length.
After the welcome stroll, participants gathered for some refreshment before the afternoon session kicked off. An introductory plenary was introduced by AUSIM President Hicham Chiguer, followed by four engaging sessions divided in smaller groups.
There, participants learned about the interesting ways Morocco is using AI, including finding innovative ways to use excess heat to generate electricity at Morocco’s largest company, OCP Group.
The inspiring day ended in good spirits as the participating CIOs prepared for the following days in their journey through Morocco to discover the innovative work being done in the country.
