Rabat – Morocco has secured a leadership position in the global sphere of mutual insurance. Brahim Al Atmani, President of the General Mutual of Public Administration Personnel (MGPAP) and the African Union of Mutuality (UAM), was elected on Friday President of the World Mutual Union (UMM) at the organization’s 6th General Assembly held in Porto, Portugal.
This prestigious appointment recognizes Morocco’s significant achievements in the mutuality sector. The MGPAP has demonstrably charted a path of success, as evidenced by its five-year strategic plan (2021-2025).
This plan prioritizes accessibility, quality, diversification, and improved services across administrative, social, and healthcare domains. Through the establishment of regional centers and expanded local service reach, MGPAP directly benefits over 453,000 members and 423,000 dependents.
These efforts align with the Royal vision of universal health coverage and broader social protection, championed by King Mohammed VI.
Al Atmani attributes this success to the governing body’s commitment to decentralization and deconcentration. Delegating certain functions, like healthcare management and benefits administration, to regional authorities has fostered improved service delivery.
This leadership role on the global stage complements Morocco’s established position within Africa.
Al Atmani highlighted the country’s dual focus: “We aim to promote South-South cooperation, exchange best practices, and solidify the mutuality system, which has proven remarkably resilient during economic, social, and health crises, exemplified by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The UMM General Assembly also served as a platform to showcase the MGPAP’s innovative program of multidisciplinary medical caravans.
Conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, this initiative has so far provided crucial medical services to over 53,235 beneficiaries in Morocco’s Southern Provinces.
