Rabat – Today marks the eagerly awaited first day of the 19th edition of the Mawazine Festival in Rabat.

The city of Rabat will be alive with the vibrant rhythms and melodies that characterize this renowned musical extravaganza.

From local favorites to international superstars, the lineup promises a night to remember for music enthusiasts gathered from around the globe.

The festivities kick off at 7:30 p.m. local time at the Mohammed V National Theater, where Lebanese star Carole Samaha will enchant the audience with her captivating blend of oriental and contemporary music.

International sensation Didi B will take the stage at Bouregreg at 9:30 p.m. to deliver a dynamic performance, igniting the crowd gathered along the picturesque riverbanks of Rabat.

Moroccan music will take center stage at Sale Beach, where local icons Latifa Raafat and Mocci will kick off their performances at 9:30 p.m.

The beachside venue will come alive with the sounds of the Moroccan artists, blending traditional rhythms with modern flair.

Artist Angham is also on today’s Mawazine program. The Egyptian singer is set to enthrall the audience with her electrifying performance at 10 p.m. in the Nahda space.

Anticipation builds at OLM Souissi for the headlining act of the night. At 10:45 p.m., Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue will perform.

She is the highest-selling female recording artist from Australia, having sold over 80 million records worldwide.  She has also received many accolades, including two Grammy Awards.

Her energy and chart-topping hits promise to deliver an unforgettable finale to the festival’s opening day.

The Moroccan festival is making a comeback this year following a three-year hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Scheduled from June 21 to June 29 in Rabat, the 19th edition of the annual festival will offer a global platform for both established stars and emerging talents.

With more days of music and festivities ahead, Mawazine Festival 2024 sets the stage for yet another memorable edition.

However, this year’s edition comes with controversy, as it is seen by many as an inappropriate time for festivities given the devastating turmoil in the world.

The decision to continue to hold the festival has stirred debate among Moroccans for its perceived neglect of the escalating plight of Palestinians as a result of Israel’s deadly offensive on Gaza.

Many argue that hosting Western, pro-Israeli artists contradicts Morocco’s historic solidarity with the Palestinian cause, and Abdelilah Benkirane, the Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) has even called for its cancellation.
