Rabat – Member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have reaffirmed their commitment to partnership with Morocco, emphasizing the strategic importance of the North African country.
The GCC countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, reiterated their remarks during the regular session of the UN C-24 being held from June 10-21 in New York.
The council conveyed its position in a statement read by the representative of Qatar on behalf of the GCC countries.
In the statement, the six member countries of the GCC reiterated their consistent position in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara as well as the preservation of the security of the country.
GCC also reiterated support for the latest resolutions of the UN Security Council on Western Sahara, noting Morocco’s efforts to achieve a peaceful solution to the regional dispute.

This comes as several countries echoed earlier this week the same sentiment at the UN C-24 meeting.
Senegal, for example, renewed during the C-24 meeting its consistent support for Moroco’s territorial integrity.
Diamane Diome, the Senegalese Permanent Representative to the UN, said: “Senegal would like to reaffirm its constant support for the Moroccan Autonomy initiative, which the Security Council has described as serious and credible in its successive resolutions since 2007.”
Other countries also reiterated this week their support for Morocco’s territorial integrity during meetings with Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita in Rabat.
The Central African Republic renewed its endorsement of the country’s territorial integrity on Monday, describing the Autonom Plan as the only viable base for a lasting political solution to the Sahara dispute.
