Rabat – The Moroccan government is currently considering the inclusion of provisions in the new Civil Procedure Code that would allow the publication of legal announcements on online news platforms. This potential change marks a departure from the longstanding practice of restricting such publications to print newspapers.

During a meeting with the Commission of Justice, Legislation, and Human Rights on Tuesday, the Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi revealed that the draft of the new Civil Procedure Code includes provisions for publishing legal announcements in electronic newspapers.

Minister Ouahbi disclosed that consultations are underway with the head of the government Aziz Akhannouch to establish a unified platform for publishing legal announcements, which would be overseen by the Ministry of Justice.

The initiative aims to centralize and streamline the publication process, as well as enhance accessibility and transparency.

While the proposal has garnered attention and support, including from the Moroccan Federation of Newspaper Publishers, it is still subject to review and debate by the parliamentary commission.

Chaired by Saïd Baaziz, the commission is currently engaged in an examination of the draft law. This will cover various aspects of civil and social procedures, jurisdictional matters, and procedural issues.

During the meeting, Ouahbi emphasized the collective goal of developing a comprehensive and effective legal framework that serves the national legal system and ensures legal security for all parties involved.

The commission is set to resume its review of the draft law on June 25.
