Rabat – Morocco reiterated its commitment to the mandate, programs, and initiatives of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) during a session in Vienna on Monday.
Azzeddine Farhane, Morocco’s Ambassador to Vienna, highlighted in his remarks the kingdom’s pledge to continue supporting UNIDO’s efforts to accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
At the 40th Session of the Organization’s Committee on Programs and Budgets, Farhane underscored Morocco’s steadfast support for UNIDO’s mission, emphasizing its role in achieving a world free from hunger.
Farhane stressed Morocco’s belief in the implementation of UNIDO’s African Strategy, adopted in December 2023, as a crucial step towards fostering inclusive industrial development across the continent.
He emphasized the need for a well-coordinated and scalable approach to industrial development in Africa, aligning with the shared objective of attaining sustainable development goals.
He also underscored the imperative of investing in innovative, sustainable, and inclusive technologies, positioning UNIDO as a key facilitator of industrial progress through global collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strategic partnerships.
Acknowledging the significance of South-South cooperation and triangular cooperation in addressing the countries’ development, particularly in Africa, Farhane emphasized Morocco’s deliberate strategic choice in favor of such collaboration.
Regarding UNIDO projects in Morocco, Farhane noted their alignment with national objectives, focusing on sustainable consumption, circular economy, energy efficiency, and green hydrogen.
He pointed out that Morocco is actively involved in actions that promote fair globalization. This includes substantial investments in climate mitigation and adaptation, as well as the recognition of global environmental health’s importance.

Farhane concluded by stressing the crucial role of UNIDO’s support in realizing Morocco’s industrial decarbonization policies, integral to its Long-Term Low-Carbon Emission Strategy 2050 and National Climate Plan 2030.
According to data from Morocco’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, the timely convergence between UNIDO’s approach to industrial development and the vision deployed in Morocco as part of the Industrial Acceleration Plan 2014-2020 has facilitated significant progress in the country’s industrial sector.
Projects under the Industrial Acceleration Plan involve waste recovery, support for green chemistry ecosystems, development plans for smart cities, implementation of sector-specific observatories, and the fortification of e-commerce infrastructure.
Morocco’s reaffirmation of support for UNIDO underscores its efforts towards advancing inclusive and sustainable industrial development, both domestically and across the African continent, in pursuit of shared global development objectives.
