The National Airports Office (ONDA) announced today the opening of a new transit zone at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport, dedicated to passengers on international layovers.
Designed to offer more space and better functionality, the new zone aims to improve operational efficiency and traveler comfort.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, this modern transit area enhances security, reduces wait times, and streamlines processes to provide a pleasant transit experience.
The new facility responds to the growing traffic at Mohammed V Airport, reinforcing its position as a major hub.
Spanning 5,000 square meters, the transit zone features 11 new check-in counters for transit passengers.
Security equipment includes 10 Explosive Detection Systems (EDS) for carry-on baggage with automated lines, 7 metal detector gates, handheld metal detectors, and 3 body scanners.
To improve passenger mobility, the zone is equipped with 7 elevators and 8 escalators.
“Today, we are opening a new international transit zone for passengers. This new 5,000 square meter zone enhances passenger flow and the performance of the civil aviation control and security system,” said Abdelhak Mazour, Director of Mohammed V Airport, in a press statement at the inauguration ceremony.
Mazour added, “The airport welcomes a significant number of transit passengers, transported from south to north and east to west. Faced with this increase in traffic, it was essential for us, in collaboration with Royal Air Maroc (RAM), to provide a sufficiently large zone capable of handling up to two million passengers per year, which is significant.”

In terms of enhanced security measures, Mazour stated that ONDA has installed high-performance equipment capable of detecting both liquid and solid explosives to ensure the most comfortable transit conditions possible.
“This equipment is available to our security partners so that they can work under optimal conditions,” he emphasized.
With this new transit zone, Mohammed V International Airport continues to expand and adapt to the growing needs of passengers while preparing for the major sporting events that Morocco is set to host.
