Rabat – Moroccan international football player has emerged as a strong candidate to compete for Africa’s Ballon d’Or.
The Real Madrid star, who greatly contributed to his club’s success in securing the Champions League title, has a “serious chance” of winning the African Ballon d’Or award, Marca argued.
“In fact, Brahim could be the first Real Madrid player to capture this award, which was created in 1970 by France Football but now officially belongs to the Confederation of African Football (since 1992),” Marca wrote.
The Spanish news outlet stressed Diaz’s commitment towards the Los Blancos as well as Morocco’s Atlas Lions, with whom he will make his official debut as a national team player.
Diaz recently played in two of Morocco’s friendly matches, but will make his first official appearance in a competitive game on Friday against Zambia as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Marca also emphasized how Diaz seeks to help promote the image of Morocco, in particular, as well as that of the whole continent.
“He has always said he feels very loved and it would be a dream to win this Ballon d’Or and other trophies” with the Atlas Lions, Marca added.
Diaz appeared in 45 matches with Real Madrid this season, scoring 12 goals.
In March, Diaz expressed in an interview his satisfaction with choosing to represent Morocco.
“I feel 100% Spanish and I feel 100% Moroccan. I grew up in Spain. If I have to score a goal for Spain, I’d be delighted, of course, but I’d also prefer to score for another national team,” Diaz said, describing himself as a player with Moroccan roots but raised and nurtured in Spain.
