Rabat – The Moroccan Tourism Observatory said on Wednesday that Rabat recorded a total of 257,472 overnight stays in classified tourist accommodation establishments by the end of April this year.

The number represents a 6% year-on-year increase, with 243,653 overnight stays recorded between January and April last year.

Meanwhile, the observatory attributed the performance to an increase in arrivals at the Rabat-Sale airport, with 175,566 tourists landing at the airport this year compared to 135,094 during the same period last year.

The volume of overnight stays in classified establishments witnessed a 7% change compared to the same period in 2023, the observatory said.

Foreign exchange earnings from non-resident tourist activities in Morocco amounted to over MAD 31 million between January and April compared to over MAD 32 million ($3.2 million) in the previous year.

The data reflects Morocco’s ambition to boost its tourism industry, the observatory said.

Also on Wednesday, Morocco’s Tourism Ministry celebrated a significant resurgence in the country’s hospitality sector, noting that Morocco’s tourist arrivals surpassed 5.9 million by the end of May.

This development marks a remarkable 15% increase compared to the same period last year, the ministry said.

Last month alone, 1.3 million tourists arrived in Morocco.

“The influx of an additional 772,000 tourists in just five months is a remarkable achievement for our tourism sector,” Minister of Tourism Fatim-Zahra Ammor said in a press release.

These upbeat figures come as Morocco continues to invest in efforts aimed at attracting 17 million tourists by 2026 and 26 million visitors by 2026.

According to Morocco’s Tourism Minister, the country invested last year $8 billion to boost its hospitality industry. “We have meticulously planned promotions, air travel options, and hospitality experiences to ensure an exceptional experience for our visitors,” she said.
