Rabat – Morocco’s capital Rabat witnessed a significant protest as demonstrators gathered today to condemn the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh as well as the ongoing massacres by the Israeli occupation forces in Gaza.
Protesters lifted banners with various demands, including cutting ties with Israel amid the ongoing massacres by Israeli occupation forces targeting civilians in Gaza.
One of the banners held by women wearing the keffiyeh condemned the violence and massacres targeting women and children.
Others held banners demanding the end of the genocide. Many others held and waved Palestinian flags and pictures of Haniyeh.
They also chanted slogans against the assassination of the Hamas leader, who was confirmed dead by the Palestinian resistance group today.
Mohamed Hamdaoui, head of external relations for the Al Adl Wal Ihsane movement, mourned the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, describing his murder as a heinous and cowardly crime.
Hamdaoui told Morocco World News (MWN) during a protest held in Rabat against Haniyeh’s assassination that the killing of the Hamas leader reflects the Israeli occupation forces’ (IOF) defeat in the field.
The protest is “Morocco’s voice, raised in Rabat and many cities across the country, condemning the abhorrent and cowardly crime” carried out by IOF, Hamdaouiadded.

Hamas announced that Haniyeh was killed in a treacherous raid during his visit to Iran, along with his bodyguard, following the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Iranian president.
Since October 7, Morocco has been home to massive protests condemning the Israeli occupation forces’ ongoing merciless campaign in Gaza. 
Protest against IOF war on Gaza
The protesters have urged the government to end its ties with Israel and have reaffirmed Morocco’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.
After re-establishing relations with Israel in December 2020, Morocco’s government renewed its unwavering position on the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that this stance would remain unchanged.
King Mohammed VI reiterated Morocco’s position in his Throne Day speech on Monday. He called for an immediate ceasefire and stressed that political dialogue is the only way out of the ongoing situation. 
Protest in front of Morocco’s parliament
The King further emphasized that stability and security in the region could only be achieved through the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
“If putting an end to the war in Gaza is an urgent priority, then this must be achieved concurrently with opening up political prospects conducive to a just and lasting peace in the region,” the monarch stressed.
