Rabat – Centrale Danone, the Moroccan subsidiary of the French dairy products giant Danone, has announced the appointment of Herve Orama Barrere as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Nathalie Alquier, who has led the company since 2019.
Alquier will be taking on new responsibilities within the Danone group, the company said in a statement.
Before this role, Barrere served as the General Manager of Danone South Africa, and earlier this year expanded his responsibilities to cover sub-Saharan Africa. His extensive experience within Danone also includes leadership positions in Algeria and Nigeria.
In the statement, Danone shed light on Barrere’s strategic expertise and deep knowledge of African markets.
“Barrere is recognized for his expertise in strategy and his understanding of African markets, having worked in various regions of the continent,” the statement read. “His integrated approach to sustainability and profitability has been crucial in strengthening Danone’s position in Africa.”
Nathalie Alquier, who guided Centrale Danone from 2019 to 2024, is credited with consolidating the company’s market-leading position and enhancing its social and environmental initiatives.
Under her leadership, Centrale Danone bolstered its reputation and market presence significantly.
Upon his appointment, Barrere emphasized the importance of the Moroccan market for Danone.
“Morocco is a strategic market for Danone,” he said. “We are confident in the development prospects of this market and determined to maintain continuous growth of our projects and strengthen our presence.”
Barrere’s leadership is expected to bring renewed focus to Danone’s operations in Morocco, reaffirming the company’s commitment to expanding its activities and reinforcing its local presence.
Based in Casablanca, the company currently employs 1,800 workers, with annual profits averaging MAD 801 million ($80 million).
