Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of National Education is broadening the scope of its Amazigh language training program to include teachers working within the private school sector.
The program has been underway since last Monday, marking the start of the training program aimed at instructing primary school educators in the teaching of the Amazigh language.
The Ministry emphasized the pivotal role of private schools as a crucial component of Morocco’s education system.
In a statement, the ministry indicated that the training, conducted by certified trainers, commenced with its initial phase in Casablanca and Agadir, benefiting a total of 94 teachers.
These teachers will assume the responsibility of teaching Amazigh in their respective private educational institutions starting from the upcoming school year.
This training initiative is a component of the Ministry of National Education’s strategy to gradually integrate the teaching of the Amazigh language into primary schools, in line with national endeavors to formalize its official status.
As part of this agenda, the ministry has pledged to increase the number of educational institutions offering Amazigh language courses, targeting 50% coverage by the start of the 2025-2026 school year.
Full integration of the Amazigh language across primary education is expected to be achieved by the beginning of the 2029-2030 school year.
To support these initiatives, the ministry plans to recruit 600 specialized professors for Amazigh language instruction and provide annual training for at least 2,000 dual-discipline teachers.
The objective of this training scheme is to support and fortify the capacities of these teachers in Amazigh teaching methodologies while deepening their pedagogical expertise.
It is also designed to facilitate the widespread adoption and effective teaching of the language within schools as a Moroccan official language.
