Marrakech – In a press conference following the Government Council meeting, Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas announced that over 1.1 million public sector employees will benefit from salary increases as part of the government’s agreement with trade unions reached on April 29, 2024.

The total cost of these increases is estimated to reach 45 billion dirhams by 2026.

According to Baitas, the minimum net monthly wage in the public sector will rise from 3,000 to 4,500 dirhams, representing a 50% increase.

In addition to the wage increases, the agreement includes the elimination of Scale 7 for administrative assistants and technical assistants, revisions to income tax, an increase in the quota for grade promotions, and several measures benefiting education personnel.

Baitas emphasized that these efforts reflect the government’s commitment to an integrated “social state” that supports both vulnerable populations in need of medical coverage and social assistance, as well as civil servants and employees.

He further stated that the agreement demonstrates the government’s desire to strengthen economic and human rights aspects through projects and measures that directly impact citizens.

The salary increases are part of a broader government initiative to improve the lives of both vulnerable and middle-class Moroccans.

This includes expanding health coverage to over 10 million people, providing monthly support to 3.6 million families, and implementing reforms to the retirement system and unemployment compensation.

Despite the substantial social spending, the government remains committed to supporting economic growth through public investment, which is projected to reach 335 billion dirhams this year.

Positive developments in foreign investment have also been reported, with a 20% increase compared to the previous year, exceeding 16.1 billion dirhams by May 2024.
