Marrakech – A recent global report has shed light on the emotional well-being of Moroccans in 2023, revealing that the country’s citizens experienced heightened levels of negative emotions, such as stress and loneliness.
The Global Emotions Report 2024, released by international research firm Gallup, placed Morocco among the countries whose residents faced a significant number of negative experiences last year.
The report, which surveyed nearly 146,000 adults aged 15 and above across 142 countries and territories, assessed emotional well-being using two key indices: the Positive Experience Index and the Negative Experience Index.
Countries were scored on a scale of 11 to 53 for the Negative Experience Index, with higher scores indicating a greater prevalence of negative experiences among the population.
Morocco found itself in the latter category, suggesting that its citizens faced considerable challenges in terms of their emotional well-being.
In addition to the high levels of stress and loneliness experienced by Moroccans, the country also ranked in the middle tier for the Positive Experience Index.
This index, which ranges from 38 to 86, measures the presence of positive experiences and emotions among a country’s population.
Morocco’s average score indicates that while positive experiences were not entirely absent, there is still room for improvement in fostering a more positive emotional climate.
The report also highlighted a global trend, noting that while the world faced ongoing conflicts in 2023, such as the continuation of the war between Ukraine and Russia and the outbreak of Israel’s war on Gaza, overall emotional well-being has improved compared to the peak of the pandemic.
Globally, positive emotions returned to pre-pandemic levels in 2023.
