Rabat – In a historic win the Labour Party has officially won the British elections held yesterday. Keir Starmer will be stepping in as British Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street today, as voting results have been announced. Labour has won the necessary majority with an overwhelming landslide obtaining 412 seats in Parliament.

The historic election comes after Prime Minister Rishi Sunack called for a snap general election in May, despite not needing to do so before the end of the year.

The Conservative Party (Tories), which has governed the UK for 14 years, has become deeply unpopular amongst the English people. The disapproval of the Conservatives has been centered on economic strife, with rising costs in living, high prices, elevating interest rates, and stagnant wages.

Despite a decline in inflammation and unemployment rates, discontent has been further exacerbated by the growing wait list for the National Health Service benefits and failures to implement promised policies attempting to curb immigration.

The Conservative Party’s campaign had been married by scandal and controversy, leading the British public to no longer feel they can trust the competency of the current government. The unhappiness with the Tories has led to extreme shifts in political support as polls and projections leading to the elections demonstrated a drastic reposition in support for the Labour Party for the first time in over a decade.

In the past few years, a trend has appeared across Europe with various countries swinging to the Right gaining more popularity over more Liberal Parties. Even in these British elections, the far-right Reform Party made significant traction in the polls, despite the staggering majority favoring the left-centered Labour Party.

Following Starmer’s campaign slogan of “Change Begins Now”, this historic runaway victory for the Labour Party is expected to usher in a new era of British politics, with a full upheaval of the administration after more than a decade of Conservative rule.
