Rabat – King Mohammed VI has sent a message of condolences and sympathy to the family of the late journalist Jamal Barawi, who passed away on Monday after a long battle with illness.
In his message, King Mohammed VI expressed deep sorrow upon hearing the news of Barawi’s passing. “We have learned with great sadness of the passing of the prominent journalist, the late Jamal Barawi. May God have mercy on him and forgive him,” the King said.
Jamal Barawi was receiving care in the intensive care unit at Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Hospital in Casablanca. His family confirmed the news of his passing after a long struggle with illness.
Barawi was a distinguished figure in Moroccan media, having worked at several media outlets throughout his career. Before transitioning into journalism, he held a senior position at a bank. He moved to Casablanca, where he established himself as a respected journalist.
Barawi’s academic background was in economics, having earned a degree from the Faculty of Law in Rabat. His political engagement began during his secondary school years, where he was involved with the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP).
In his message, King Mohammed VI conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Barawi’s family, the Moroccan media community, and his friends and admirers.
“On this sad occasion, we express to you, and through you to all your relatives and loved ones, as well as to the national media family, and to all his friends and admirers, our deepest condolences and our sincere feelings of sympathy for the loss of an accomplished journalist and political and economic analyst, known for his distinguished media career,” the monarch said.
The King lauded the late journalist for his dedication to the principles and ethics of his profession, saying he upheld them with courage and objectivity as he demonstrated unwavering loyalty to the defense of his country’s interests and values.
