Rabat – The Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Customs Authority has reported a significant drug seizure at the El Guergarat border post, located south of Dakhla.
Customs officials confiscated on Monday 4.198 kilograms of hashish, commonly known as “Chira.” The drugs were found hidden in custom compartments built into the truck’s secure storage areas, MAP quoted a “customs source” as saying today.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with national security services. It involved rigorous export control measures that uncovered the illicit substance concealed in tablet form. The hashish was ingeniously concealed in the vehicle’s compartments.
In addition, customs authorities carried out on Tuesday non-intrusive control procedures using scanners, leading to another major drug seizure. During an import inspection, officials intercepted 46 kilograms of cocaine, which was concealed within the refrigeration system of a transport truck.
El Guergarat is a border post located in southern Morocco, near the border between the country and Mauritania. The area has been a significant point for various cross-border activities, including trade.
The border post has been a hotspot for drug smuggling operations. Its location on a major route between Morocco and other countries makes it a strategic point for traffickers attempting to move drugs across borders.
