Rabat – Catalan club FC Barcelona is extending its international training network with the opening of a new football school –Barca Academy – in Casablanca.
This comes following the success of its first academy in Rabat and is inscribed within the club’s strategic mission to expand and promote football in Morocco.
The club announced in an official statement that the Barca Academy Casablanca will begin operations in September, with a target enrollment of around 500 children, both boys and girls.
This new academy will be the 28th of its kind worldwide and adds to Barca Academy’s presence in 48 countries across five continents, including various training campuses and camps.
The club’s statement asserts that the goal of the football academy is to provide “comprehensive” training while promoting the club’s brand image. “Football and sports, in general, are tools for social cohesion, and Barca is a global driving force for all the values it brings to society.”
Earlier this month, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) also revealed plans to open a new football academy in Casablanca, scheduled to commence in September 2024.
Located in Tamaris, the facility will boast a full-size 11-meter-a-side pitch, along with various smaller pitches for 5-a-side, 7-a-side, and 9-a-side games.
The decision to establish this academy reflects PSG’s recognition of its substantial fan base in Morocco and the broader region.
With 4.9 million fans in Morocco, significantly influenced by star defender Achraf Hakimi, the country is PSG’s 10th largest supporter base.
