Marrakech – The Embassy of Morocco in the Republic of Azerbaijan has announced that the visa exemption agreement for ordinary passport holders between the two countries will officially take effect on Wednesday, August 28.
Starting from this date, Azerbaijani citizens will be able to enter Morocco without a visa for stays of up to 90 days, provided their passports are valid for at least 180 days from the date of entry.
Reciprocally, Moroccan nationals will enjoy the same visa-free privileges when visiting Azerbaijan.
The embassy expects this visa exemption to significantly boost travel, tourism, and business exchanges between Morocco and Azerbaijan.
Notably, the implementation of this visa-free regime coincides with the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which dates back to August 28, 1992.
This timing underscores the mutual commitment to strengthening the brotherly ties that unite Morocco and Azerbaijan.
The visa exemption agreement was initially signed during the 15th Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Banjul, Gambia, in May 2024.
Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhoun Bayramov, inked the agreement on the sidelines of the summit, emphasizing its role in bolstering friendship and cooperation, particularly in the tourism sector.
This development comes as Morocco’s passport continues to gain strength in terms of global mobility.
According to the latest Henley Passport Index 2024 Global Ranking, the Moroccan passport now grants its holders visa-free access to 72 destinations worldwide, securing the 68th position globally and the top spot in the Maghreb region.
Agreements such as the one with Azerbaijan contribute to the increasing power of the Moroccan passport.
