Rabat – In a milestone event, 13-year old Moroccan climber Youssef Tazi, known as the “Atlas Boy,” has conquered Mount Elbrus, the highest point in Europe at an altitude of 5,642 meters.
Elbrus’ journey marks Tazi’s second summit as the youngest Arab and African child to challenge the Seven Summits of the World.
Youssef was accompanied by his father Omar Tazi, with whom he reached the peak on Saturday after a six-day adventure.
“The impossible is not Moroccan,” the Moroccan adventurer said, while proudly raising the Moroccan flag.
“I dedicate this achievement to all Moroccan people, headed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God bless him,” the youngster said.
Tazi also dedicated his achievement to the children of Gaza and the entire Palestinian people, calling for an immediate end to Israel’s war targeting civilians in Gaza and the protection of the enclave’s children.
For Tazi, children in Gaza need to enjoy their rights like all other children in the world.
The Atlas Boy’ ultimate goal is to reach Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,848 meters. Passionate about mountaineering since the age of four, he climbed more than 40 mountain peaks in Morocco before making international headlines by scaling Mount Ararat, the highest peak in Turkey in August of 2023.
The achievement made him the youngest Moroccan and Arab climber to surpass the 5,000 meter barrier.
In January 2024, he reached Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest in Africa at the age of 12.
Tazi’s accomplishment fills him with determination and ambition to carry on with his journey.
Despite the challenges, Tazi said he is grateful for his family’s support; particularly his father who accompanied him on this adventure.
The Atlas Boy is also full of appreciation for everyone who supported him realizing this dream.
