Rabat – France and Argentina will face off today in a quarter-final clash at 8 p.m. Moroccan time at the Matmut Atlantique in Bordeaux.
France announced their intent early in Group A with a commanding 3-0 victory over the United States, though all goals came in the second half. They continued their strong performance with a 1-0 win over Guinea, thanks to a 75 minute strike from Kiliann Sildillia.
In the final group match against New Zealand, Jean-Philippe Mateta broke France’s first-half scoring drought, followed by goals from Desire Doue and Arnaud Kalimuendo after the break.
This solid performance allowed France to top their group with ease.
Meanwhile, Argentina, overcoming an opening 2-1 loss to Morocco, rebounded strongly by defeating Iraq 3-1 and Ukraine 2-0 to secure second place in Group B.
Both teams are currently in peak form, but the final outcome of their much-anticipated clash will ultimately hinge on details such as defensive mistakes and the ruthlessness or effectiveness of both teams’ forwards when presented with scoring opportunities.
Argentina’s defense will especially need to stay alert against France’s aggressive offensive strategies, while the French must secure their flanks to neutralize the South American attack.
France is favored to win, leveraging their home advantage and current form. Sportskeeda predicts a narrow 2-1 victory for France.
