Rabat – Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita has once again emphasized the deepening of international support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara region.
Speaking on Friday at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Bourita argued that this growing momentum underscores the irreversibility of a political resolution grounded in the autonomy plan that respects Morocco’s territorial integrity.
Bourita stated that the call for a resolution based on Morocco’s autonomy plan, which the kingdom first presented to the UN Security Council in 2007, is gaining traction.

He urged the United Nations to align its stance with the realities on the ground, further validating Morocco’s approach to resolving the long-standing dispute.
“The Moroccan autonomy plan is the one and only solution,” Bourita asserted, calling on global stakeholders to recognize the nation’s rightful claim.
His comments followed a series of bilateral meetings with foreign counterparts on the sidelines of the UN assembly, with discussions revolving around the growing support for Morocco’s position on the Sahara.
Many nations have in the past years and months reiterated their commitment to Morocco’s territorial integrity, he noted, attributing this success to the visionary leadership of King Mohammed VI.
Bourita especially cited Denmark’s recent endorsement of the Moroccan autonomy plan, stressing that this made the country the19th EU nation to have embraced Morocco’s autonomy initiative.
Such growing European support for Morocco’s stance on the Sahara signals a fundamental paradigm shift in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity, he concluded.
