Official: Hezbollah Confirms Killing of Leader Hassan Nasrallah in Israeli Airstrike

Rabat – Hezbollah released a statement on Saturday announcing the death of its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, following last night’s targeted Israeli airstrikes on the group’s military headquarters in the suburbs of Beirut.

The group mourned the death of its leader and other Hezbollah members that were also killed in Israeli airstrikes, pledging to continue its “jihad in confronting the enemy, in support of Gaza and Palestine, and in defense of Lebanon and its steadfast and honorable people.”

The statement highlighted Nasrallah’s leadership over three decades, emphasizing key victories for the group, such as the 2000 liberation of Lebanon and the 2006 war.

The unprecedented airstrikes, which Israeli described as a “precise attack” aimed at Hezbollah’s central command center, resulted in significant destruction and casualties, with at least six buildings destroyed and numerous civilians affected.

Israeli forces said they hit more than 140 Hezbollah targets since Friday evening. This includes infrastructure that was “embedded underneath residential buildings in the area of Beirut,” they claimed.

The unprecedented Israeli bombardment continued throughout the night and forced thousands of people from their homes onto Beirut’s streets.

The number of people killed in the Israeli bombing has risen to six with at least 91 others wounded, Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported.

Nasrallah’s death marks a critical moment in the ongoing hostilities, potentially altering the balance of power within the region and further escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
